Terms of use

This platform is operated by Nagrik Civic Technologies Private Limited, registered office Pune, Maharashtra, India. By using it you agree to the terms below. They are governed by the laws of India, with jurisdiction in the courts at Pune, Maharashtra.

What you may do

  • Read, print, and share any page. Reuse the published figures with attribution as set out under copyright.
  • File civic reports about a genuine service condition you have observed, without creating an account.
  • Dispute a closure you believe did not resolve the reported condition.

What you may not do

  • File a report you know to be false, or file repeatedly about the same condition to inflate a ward's report count. Both distort a public record other people rely on.
  • Submit content that identifies a private individual, is defamatory, or is unlawful under Indian law. Reports are public from submission.
  • Use automated means to submit reports, or to retrieve pages at a rate that degrades the service for others.
  • Present the platform or its figures as an official Government of India source. See the disclaimer.

A report may be withheld from publication where it appears to breach the above. The reference number is still issued and the reason is recorded against it.

Privacy policy and DPDP notice

This section is the notice required under Section 5 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Nagrik Civic Technologies Private Limited is the Data Fiduciary.

What is collected, and why

  • Report content — the category, description, ward and any photograph you attach. Purpose: to route the report to the responsible department and to publish the civic record. This is published.
  • Your name, if you give one — optional, and published exactly as you enter it. Leaving it blank files the report anonymously.
  • A contact number, if you give one — used only to update you on your own report. Never published, never used for anything else, never shared with a third party for marketing.
  • Interface preferences — language, text size, contrast mode, and your selected role. Stored in your browser's local storage on your own device, not on a server, and readable only by this site.

What is not collected

  • No demographic profiling. The platform does not record or infer gender, age bracket, caste, religion, income or political identity. The role selector records a role, because that changes which page is useful first — nothing more.
  • No third-party analytics, advertising or social-media trackers. No webfonts are fetched from an external host, so no third party is told which pages you read.
  • No location transmission. If you use “find my ward”, your browser gives coordinates to the page, the page matches them against a city list shipped with it, and the coordinates are then discarded. They never reach a server and no geocoding service is contacted.

Your rights under the DPDP Act

  • Access — request confirmation of what personal data is held about you and a summary of its processing.
  • Correction and erasure — request correction of inaccurate data, or erasure where the purpose is served. Note that the civic record of a published report is retained in the public interest; erasure applies to the identifiers attached to it, and a report can be de-attributed on request.
  • Grievance redressal — see below. You may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if the response does not satisfy you.
  • Nomination — nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of death or incapacity.

Retention, transfer and children

Contact numbers attached to a report are retained until the report is closed and the dispute window has passed, then deleted. Published report content is retained indefinitely as a public civic record. All processing and storage takes place on infrastructure located in India; no personal data is transferred outside India.

The platform is not directed at children and does not knowingly process the personal data of anyone under 18. No behavioural tracking or targeted advertising is carried out on any user.

Material on this site falls into three categories, and the terms differ:

  • Published figures and derived datasets — the Civic Health Score, component scores, and the aggregate tables. Free to reproduce, including commercially, with attribution to “Nagrik (Nagrik Civic Technologies Private Limited)” and a link to the page the figure came from. Please cite the methodology version shown on the page, since figures are revised when the methodology is.
  • Citizen report content — the property of the citizen who submitted it, published here under the licence granted on submission. Reproduce with attribution to the reference number, not to a person.
  • Interface, wordmark, icon set and written material — © 2026 Nagrik Civic Technologies Private Limited. Not licensed for reuse.

The Nagrik mark uses the colours of the national palette. It does not reproduce the National Flag, the State Emblem, the Ashoka Chakra or any other name or emblem listed in the Schedule to the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950.

If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, write to contact@nagrik.in identifying the material and the basis of your claim. It will be reviewed within 15 working days.

Links from this site

Where a page links to an external site — a state portal, a central ministry, a published dataset — the link is marked with an external-link indicator. Those sites are not under our control. We are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement.

Links to this site

You may link to any page here without asking permission. Please link to the page itself rather than framing it, do not present the page as your own content, and do not imply endorsement, empanelment or affiliation that does not exist. Deep links to a ward or a report reference are stable and are safe to cite in a document.

Disclaimer

Nagrik is an independent civic technology platform. It is not a Government of India website. It does not represent, and is not endorsed by, any ministry, department, state government or urban local body.

Where this site names a national programme — Swachh Bharat Mission, AMRUT, the Smart Cities Mission, CPGRAMS, NDSAP, GIGW — it does so to state which published reporting standard or unit of measurement the platform aligns with. Those references are statements of technical alignment. They are not claims of endorsement, empanelment or affiliation.

Figures are derived from citizen reports and published records and are provided for information. While they are computed by a documented method and recomputed hourly, they carry the limitations set out in the methodology and are not a substitute for the official record of any municipality. Nothing here creates an obligation on any department or officer.

Security policy

If you find a vulnerability, please report it to contact@nagrik.in with enough detail to reproduce it, and allow 90 days before public disclosure. We will acknowledge within three working days and keep you informed until it is resolved.

Please do not test with automated scanners against the live service, do not attempt to access another person's data, and do not submit false civic reports as part of a test — they enter a public record other people rely on. Good-faith research reported this way will not be pursued.

Grievance redressal

For any grievance about content, a published figure, a report, or the processing of your personal data:

  • Grievance Officer, Nagrik Civic Technologies
  • Email: grievance@nagrik.in
  • Post: Pune, Maharashtra, India

Grievances are acknowledged within three working days and resolved within 30 days. If the response does not satisfy you, a data-protection grievance may be escalated to the Data Protection Board of India under the DPDP Act, 2023.

Content last reviewed 2026-07-24. Reviewed on a quarterly cycle. Platform version 1.0.0.
